30.5.19, Emergency department ( ED).
7.00 pm : All the medical staff happily taking foods and drinks preparing to buka puasa. Today we are extra happy because our ED specialist belanja and one of the staff from hospital also belanja , so we got extra food! Usually ED will be calm around 1/2 hour or 1 hour before buka puasa, today also the same with yellow zone got 4-5 patients , and i am incharge red zone with 2 patients who just awaiting for admission.
7.10 pm : BAMM! Someone slammed the red zone door. One MA shouting PP type 2 bleeding!!
Noted on the stretcher patient pregnant lady, foreigner, 30 years plus, bleeding all over the stretcher approximately 2 L with drowsiness. All the ED staff quickly check the vital signs, some inserting lines, taking blood. All of us so worried patient will collapse any time soon.
BP unrecordable! Shout one of the staff, pulse still present. Out of nowhere the specialist who belanja us today muncul with his baju melayu, quickly wear apron and gloves. “Activate RED ALERT ! “ he shouted.
RED ALERT if in my hospital usually for Obs cases. Actually I've encountered a few red alert cases before, mostly in my OnG posting but that time tak rasa apa-apa sangat sbb tau nanti a lot people will come and help. So end up tengok dari jauh ja...
But today is different, i am the one who receiving the patient, i am holding a patient who is pregnant and bleeding who can collapse anytime soon. PERHATIAN! PERHATIAN! RED ALERT ! RED ALERT! LOKASI KECEMASAN. Announcement by operator was loud and clear.
While we are busy helping the patient and me putting the high flow mask and constantly checking patient GCS to make sure she is still there. In just 2-3 minutes the red zone that initially has me, one MO , specialist, 2 nurse total about 7 - 8 staff only suddenly became 20-30 medical staff.
Anaesth team, OnG team, Paeds team, Medical team and also ED team, All in red zone , from their nurses, HO, MO, Specialist all came down doing their part.
Wowww, naik bulu roma aku. “Style gila!” Bisik dalam hatiku.
All of us so busy focusing to help this Rohingyan mother.
So busy but organised.
While we are trying to transfer patient to other beds, “Syazwan kamu activate MTP ( major transfusion protocol) sekarang.” Ask my specialist, aku angguk tanda faham. Aku berlari mencari telefon. While dialing the blood bank MO, I can see malays, chinese, indians are trying their very best helping this rohingyan mother..
Aku tgok jam di dinding 7.30pm , dah masuk waktu berbuka, and not even one person (esp muslim) tried to drink or eat anything to break their fast ,their eyes just focus on the patient.
Ting! , “telah masuk waktu solat fardhu magrib” operator announced. Kak Selvi : sapa puasa p mnum air dulu, buka puasa dulu! All the muslims just smile and one of them said takpa2 kak satgi kami minum.
7.35 pm : patient quickly transferred to major OT for operation.
This long story actually happen in just 15 minutes. A heart warming yet intense experienced for me. How malaysians unite to save a lives.
Please dont destroy this love and unity between us.
BeforeI punch out, i heard that patient safely delivered and stable in ICU.
Hopefully both of them can survived insyaAllah.
