Dr new case PAC! Dr nak ARM pt bilik 3! Dr CTG tak cantik room 2 cepat inform MO! Dr new case dari ward os 4cm! Dr ward call ada patient PP bleeding! Dr ward pulak call CTG x cantikk!
That night was the busiest night i have ever experienced so far since first posting (orthopaedic). There are 3 HO on call that night including me, and we need to cover 2 wards, PAC and also Labour room, yes that is how we practice in this hospital (OnG department) . We were so busy and none of us can sit/rest not even for a minute.. not a minute! We were very confused whether it is night or day because there are too many patients coming, as in we were working in day time.
For better understanding, each one of us will be assigned one place to be responsible of during oncall, like me that night i was incharged of ward 9, my friend ward 10 and the other one labour room, but if there is nothing happen in ward all of us need to stay in labour room.
Back to the story , that night was soo crazy, non stop patient keep on coming like there was a SALE going on in labour room. Tired? only Allah knows how i feel that time, haven't settle clerking new case in PAC ,need to go attend other case in LR, then run to ward to check CTG and the cycle goes on and on until sunrise. I prayed subuh around 7.00 am plus, then continue settling new case until the day shift colleague came..
8.10am missed call 5 times from my colleague!!..
I turn on Whatsapp " weh mana hangg specialist cari!!" Shoot! i overslept in the car, what happen is, after settling new case around 7.40am, and the day shift HO come i decided to get some food ( nasi lemak and fishball) and rest for few minutes, while waiting for morning round at 8 am and to continue working till 12 pm..
*working time in OnG if you are on call ( 7am-5pm day time, rest at home for 4 hours and come back at 9pm untill tomorrow 12 noon)
I Quickly ran to LR the minute after i saw my friends watssapp, once i arrived in LR , i saw all my colleague, nurses, mo are sitting quietly looking down as if they already got scolded by the specialist. " sorry bos i am late ", then what happen, of course la "kena bantai"/ scold by specialist . " KAMU PERGI MANA?? NI KAMU TENGOK APA KAMU TULIS DEKAT CLERKING KAMU??" I did one mistakes in my clerking which in my drawing of abdomen i did not highlight the word " PREVIOUS SCAR" my specialist he is very particular, during his ward round he will look at what you write word by word and if you write it wrong even one word so ready la telinga kena bising dengan dia. Scary right haha..
The best part is after he scold me because i came late and wrote wrongly in my clerking he once again asked me " DAHLA TULIS SALAH, LAMBAT IKUT ROUND KAMU PERGI MANA?", i just can simply say i went to toilet or i went to buy drinks, but i am so "clever" i respond to him "sorry bos, saya tertidur dalam kereta".
Have you guys seen a video of a volcano eruption , thats is how my specialist when he heard my respond, " APA TIDUR DALAM KERETA???" tutt tuttt tuttt....
At that time i felt really really down in front of everyone, i said to myself how come for the whole night i have been sweating, running here and there, cant even sit/rest for a minute, then in the morning got scolded in front of others just because I have been 10 minutes late for morning round. Itu pon tidak sengaja..This is not fair!!
Then during scolding time, eventhough i really hate that particular moment . One fact that cannot be denied the specialist who scolded me that time, he is actually a really good specialist, love his patients. Dia jenis , ' cepat marah cepat sejuk' kind ,after that he will laugh like nothing happen, and i know his intension just want to teach me and others so that this thing will not happen again.
I remembered his word," macamana kalau patient collapse, orang cari doctor, tengok - tengok doctor tak ada?, I know you guys are tired but never ever leave your working area! This is your responsibility to save a lives " aku angguk tanda faham, eventhough dalam hati aku jawab, "alah orang shift pagi kan ada".. but i took it as life lesson and a new challenge for me, no matter how tired you are there are people who needs you, they are struggling to survive. We can sleep or rest later, but your patient is dying and there are two lives in your hand, will they have another chance to live if something happen?
Thanks O&G! Remember, in O&G we are taking care two lives minimum and sometimes three at the same time, so be very careful and be a very responsible doctor. Yes you can rest, we are not robot, but please dont be like me, just sleep or take a short nap within your working area where people can easily find you if something happen.
You will appreciate your mother even more once you entered this department. How hard it is to deliver a single human being and how beauty it is when a mother sees her baby for the first time, all the bloods, the wound, the pain all the dirty things will be forgotten once this beautiful creatures came out. A baby.
